Size & Bed Length

Chevy Silverado 1500: The Chevy Silverado 1500 is a full-size light-duty truck, so you can expect it to be big inside and out. The maximum length of the truck is 232.75 inches, and it offers a maximum height of 78.66 inches. The cargo bed is 69.92, 79.44, or 98.18 inches long and 71.40 inches wide.

GMC Sierra 1500: The GMC Sierra 1500 falls short of the Chevy Silverado in terms of overall length and bed length. The Sierra 1500 is 229.73 inches long overall and 75.60 inches tall. For the bed, expect a length of 70-inches, 79-inches, or 98.20 inches and a width of 71.40 inches.

Towing & Payload

Chevy Silverado 1500: The maximum towing capacity of the new Chevy Silverado 1500 is 13,300 pounds, and the maximum payload is 2,260 pounds. Your choice of engine will affect your towing rating. That towing rating is among the best in the industry for light-duty full-size trucks.

GMC Sierra 1500: The half-ton GMC Sierra 1500 can also tow up to 13,200 pounds and offer a maximum payload of 2,530 pounds. That towing rating is quite close to what the Silverado 1500 offers, with only a 100-pound difference separating them. That may not make that big difference for many drivers, yet every pound counts.

Engine & Fuel Economy

Chevy Silverado 1500: The Chevy Silverado 1500 offers four engines to choose from. The TurboMax, the standard engine, offers 310 horsepower and best-in-class 430 pound-feet of standard torque. The 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 provides 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, and the 6.2-liter EcoTec V8 provides 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Finally, the Duramax 3.0-liter Turbo-Diesel offers 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque. When it comes to fuel economy, expect 23 MPG in the city, 29 MPG on the highway, and 26 MPG combined.

GMC Sierra 1500: The GMC Sierra 1500 also offers four engines, the same four engines. This is because both Chevy and GMC are GM brands with many of the same capabilities and features. The GMC Sierra 1500 also shares the same fuel efficiency.

Ride Quality

Chevy Silverado 1500: The Chevy Silverado 1500 is a surprisingly agile truck. Firm brakes and reassuring feedback help give you a comfortable ride. While base models include the bare basics, higher trims add more features, including manually adjustable front seats, vinyl seats, open-pore wood trim, and leather upholstery. You can truly enjoy every ride in the Silverado 1500.

GMC Sierra 1500: While the GMC Sierra 1500 handles well on the road thanks to its minimal body roll and responsive steering, it is still a rougher ride than the Chevy. The GMC Sierra 1500 shares cabin comforts such as open-pore wood trim and leather surfaces, but it does not quite match the Chevy.
